Edith Annie Jeffery (January 11, 1890 - September 19, 1970) entered the orbit of the renowned Edwardian cook and Cavendish Hotel entrepreneur Rosa Lewis, famously known as the "Duchess of Jermyn Street," around 1917 to 1919. Initially brought in to help maintain and refresh the hotel, Edith quickly became Rosa's trusted companion, close friend, and key operational partner at the historic Mayfair establishment.

Over the decades, Edith served as the steady backbone of the Cavendish Hotel, helping navigate its fortunes through the roaring interwar period and the harrowing years of World War II. When a German bomb severely damaged the building during the Blitz, Edith remained on-site alongside Rosa, who characteristically refused to take shelter. In 1944, as Rosa's health declined and she required care in a nursing home, Edith took charge of the hotel's daily administration. Rosa eventually returned to the hotel and remained under Edith's care until Rosa's death on November 28, 1952.

Following Rosa's passing, Edith assumed full management of the aging hotel, steering its operations for another decade. Under her stewardship, the eccentric, old-world charm of the original Cavendish survived until June 1962, when the building finally closed its doors prior to its sale and demolition.

Edith Annie Jeffery passed away on February 10, 1970. In death, she remained closely tied to her lifelong companion, as she was laid to rest at Putney Vale Cemetery and Crematorium in the London Borough of Wandsworth, Greater London, sharing a final resting place with Rosa Lewis. Their bond is commemorated by an inscription that reads: "In loving memory of Edith Annie Jeffery her friend and companion for many years. Born 11th. January 1890, Died 10th. February 1970."
